This morning I had the honour of volunteering at the Gift of Love Home for the aged run by the Missionaries of Charity. I love Mother Teresa and the Missionaries for the heroic work they do. They're angels. Look at this letter which I once received from them.
After early morning Mass at the Opus Dei Centre (beautifully reverent as usual) Joel, Evan and I head by car to Marymount. We had a jam and cheese sandwich each in the car for breakfast (the combination is actually quite good. Try it!).
The sisters start their day praying in front of a statue of Our Lady. They also sang "Be With Us Mary Along the Way".
We helped serve breakfast, swept and mopped the floor, helped the inmates take their chairs outside the verandah to sit in the morning sunlight, took a few of the wheelchair-bound men for a 'ride' around the compound, chat with them (sometimes this could be tough - especially for me: I'm comfortable when the other party is talkative). I even fed someone pieces of banana for his snack.
I've never done something like this before and I'm thankful for the experience. Hopefully I can do it again soon.
God bless the Missionaries of Charity, and all the people they care for.
