Father Richards was on fire at this evenings Mass - he gave an excellent homily - a plea for us to follow the example of the saints - the famous canonized ones and the countless unknown men and women who lived their lives as monuments to Christ and who are celebrated today.
More versions of this great prayer - the Litany of the Saints - at Why I Am Catholic. Go take a look!
So here's to all the saints - the ones I know and love dearly, though I tend to forget them sometimes: Dominic Savio, John Bosco, Anthony, Augustine, Monica, Catherine of Siena, Francis of Assisi, Josemaria, Sebastian, Christopher, Therese, Teresa of Calcutta, John Henry Newman; all the other, canonized giants of our faith; those still in the process of being proclaimed saints like John Paul II, Frank Duff, Edel Quinn, Alfie Lambe (santo (or santi?) subito!); as well as all the beautiful souls who have walked this earth, unknown and unsung heroes of the faith who mirrored Christ and brought his fragrance everywhere they went.
And here's also to us, saints, hopefully, in the making. Perhaps the statue of someone I know will one day take up this empty space I saw at the Vatican when I visited in June:
