It was beautiful.
Legion was in charge of organizing it, and almost all of the Legionaries were down. It was especially great to chat with Therese and Paul who looked so relived after just handing in their FYPs :)
We were in a good mood...haha
It was Fr Val's last Mass. We'll miss his excellent homilies, his friendship, the jokes, the occassional sarcasm, the care he showed over the last four years. I remember heard my first confession in Singapore, four years ago, at Holy Cross church.
When I joined NUS, the newly ordained Fr Val, started taking over as CSS' chaplainship from Fr Fred. Now as I'm finishing my undergrads, he's leaving too, off to Rome for further studies.
After Mass, Fr Val led the community in praying for us, and blessed us with holy water. We watched video tributes to Fr Val, and to the graduating students. Very nice!!
We sang, took photos, and ended it all off with the very very apt hymn "Thank You, Lord, for the trials that come my way..."
I remember singing that during times when things seemed burdensome and trying. Especially in my first few sems.
We had dinner after that. And took loads and loads of photos.
I also managed to lose my bag and the Legionaries had to help me hunt for it. Perfect ah? :p
Thank You Lord, for the beautiful people that you sent my way during these four years.
Thank You for the successes, the pleasures and the joys. And than You for the trials, the worries, and thank You for Your presence through each of those difficulties.
You have strengthened my belief that everything happens for the best. Even those things that seem to bring no good.
Yes, I thank You Lord! Deo Gratias.

Thank you, Lord,
for the trials that come my way.
In that way I can grow each day
as I let you lead,
And thank you, Lord,
for the patience those trials bring.
In that process of growing,
I can learn to care.
But it goes against the way
I am to put my human nature down
and let the Spirit take control of all I do.
'Cause when those trials come,
my human nature shouts the thing to do;
and God's soft prompting
can be easily ignored.
I thank you, Lord,
with each trial I feel inside,
that you're there to help,
lead and guide me away from wrong.
'Cause you promised, Lord,
that with every testing,
that your way of escaping is easier to bear.
But it goes against the way
I am to put my human nature down
and let the Spirit take control of all I do.
'Cause when those trials come,
my human nature shouts the thing to do;
and God's soft prompting
can be easily ignored.
I thank you, Lord,
for the victory that growing brings.
In surrender of everything
life is so worth while.
And I thank you, Lord,
that when everything's put in place,
out in front I can see your face,
and it's there you belong.
