Stop lying!

Carina has a excellent post about the deceitfulness of calling oneself a "pro-choice Catholic":

The author is claiming that her faith allows her to be prochoice Catholic because of the primacy of conscience. Well, there are so many things wrong about that statement. First, once again, and how many times does the Church have to repeat this: all human life is sacred. If the choice you are talking about is abortion--that is, killing human life--you cannot be prochoice and Catholic. Repeat after me: "I cannot be pro-choice and Catholic." What part of "Thou shall not kill" don't they understand?

I know I'll be hitting raw nerves (as I always seem to do) with this impassioned, seemingly harsh statement, especially for so-called pro-choice Catholics. But if there's one thing I can't stand, it is claiming that the Catholic Church somehow supports the legitimization of this despicable act. If you're a "pro-choice Catholic", please take some time to understand the Church's unwavering position on this issue. You can't serve two masters. You can't be pro-choice and Catholic. Stop lying.

Do read the rest of her piece here.

And check out Ignatius Insight's piece about using Church teaching to justify pro-abortion stances at "I am a pro-adultery Catholic because my Catholic faith tells me I can be."

One thing I've found almost as annoying and scandalous are Catholics who're all gaga about people like Barack Obama but who just don't think the politicians' stance on abortion is something of interest. When a pro-abortion stance is mentioned they fudge about with statements like: "he's pro choice not pro abortion", "there are other issues at stake as well"; not because they have thought out these issues well, but because they just don't care.
They have an almost total indifference to the crime of abortion and also to the Church's teachings on the subject. Completely blinkered by the popular fashion.

True, there are other issues at stake. We must oppose war, we must support good healthcare and social services and oppose injustice of any kind.
And there just might be some truly proportionate reason to support a "pro-choice" candidate". But are the reasons people give today grave enough to outweigh our obligation to end the killing of the unborn?

Archbishop Chaput gives us a litmus test as to what such proportionate reasons might look like:
"It would be a reason if we could, with an honest heart, expect the unborn victims of abortion to accept when we meet them and explain our actions - as we someday will."

Imagine, fellow Catholics, and ask yourselves, when you meet those aborted babies would you be able to justify your support of their murder (yes, in Singapore we do not vote on this issue, but moral and intellecutal support is serious enough already).

Let's not kneel before the world: speak up for life!

"The truth of the faith is not lessened by the fact that I stand alone."
~ Pope Liberius (352-366)
