While my left eye has sort of stabilized (very slight deterioration) my right has got worse - but I haven't really sensed it. The optician suggested I have something called lazy eye.
Amblyopia, otherwise known as lazy eye,is a disorder of the visual system that is characterized by poor or indistinct vision in an eye that is otherwise physically normal, or out of proportion to associated structural abnormalities. It has been estimated to affect 1–5% of the population.
Refractive amblyopia may result from anisometropia (unequal refractive error between the two eyes). Anisometropia exists when there is a difference in the refraction between the two eyes. The eye which provides the brain with a clearer image (closer to 20/20) typically becomes the dominant eye. The image in the other eye is blurred, which results in abnormal development of one half of the visual system.
Apparently my brain has got used to "seeing" mainly through my left eye. So am supposed to exercise my right eye by spending time looking just through that eye.
The visit to the optician was much better than I expected though. He's very, very nice and friendly - I even asked him how the instrument he uses works, and he explained things like how to see which eye is dominant. He also gave advice on choosing a frame. ;)
Oh this is a good opportunity to show this drawing by Matthew at The Shrine. I really like his drawings!
It's of St Lucy, virgin and martyr, and patron saint for the blind. Her eyes were so beautiful that she attracted the attentions of a pagan suitor. In response she cut off her eyes to stop him from pursuing her (since she had vowed virginity). Another version is that when she refused a marriage proposal, her suitor denounced her as a Christian and her final torture was having her eyes gouged off. She was however, miraculously, still able to see.

The name Lucy is related "lux", the latin word for light.
